Link to Great Moyers Interview

Here, finally, is a man who clearly delineates the nature of the problem faced by America.  From FDR on, Andrew Bacevich is the first person I have ever heard clearly state what we have all known for a long time.  Follow this link and listen or read the entire interview - PLEASE.  http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/09262008/watch.html

Anti-war?

Anti-War?  http://deeperthanwars.blogspot.com/2008/09/antiwar.html

by Tyler Boudreau, Author of Packing Inferno, the Unmaking of a Marine

In this post from the blog Deeper than War,
Iraq War veteran Tyler Boudreau discusses the concept of being anti-war
in the context of a person’s individual experience rather than a
political stance.

"Is
that what you call yourself?" It's a question I'm asked all the time,
often with derision, sometimes ...

On Sarah Palin

Palin has recently stated that
being mayor of Wasilla “wasn’t rocket science.” We can perhaps take that comment
in the humble spirit it was intended, understanding that, with the exception of
Cheney, Vice Presidents are often electoral window-dressing, and unless The
Unthinkable happens, are not required to do much.

But looking
closely at Sarah’s time as mayor reveals a lack of skill. Palin’s prime legacy

A Message from Midge Potts

Dear Peace Network friends,

As many of you know, I ran for Congress in 2006 against Roy Blunt in the Republican primary as a "progressive conservative". I did pretty well in that race garnering more than 7% of the vote; that was incredible, considering I spent less than $2000 versus the 2 MILLION Blunt spent prior to the primary! Some of you chose to vote for me in that primary, and discovered that voting outside your norm had the additional benefit of allowing you to be able to vote against Jim Talent and other Republican incumbants. I think more than anything, I am proud that I got people to think outside the box, and was able to stir the pot a bit in southwest Missouri.

Personally, I believe that the federal goverment is no longer "of, by and for the People." I think that we have no choice but to represent ourselves! That's what I did by going to Washington DC last year, I was representing myself in the halls of Congress. Stirring the pot some more, calling for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney, standing up for accountability from Rice and Gonzales, and demanding an end to US imperialism in Iraq, Afgahnistan, the Middle East, and the entire world.

Now, I am trying to stir the pot in southwest Missouri again. I have filed the required paperwork with Missouri's Secretary of State to be an official write-in candidate for US Representative in Missouri's 7th Congressional District. I am running as a write-in candidate in order to get Ozarkians to "vote outside the box!" Actually,  I wish that all of us would write ourselves in for Congress to show that we want to represent ourselves. I think it would make a powerful statement if thousands of people voted for themselves! However, most people don't have the thick skin necessary to get involved in politics. For that reason, I am running for Congress against Roy Blunt as a write-in candidate to make as big of a statment as possible on election day this year.

What is the statement I am trying to make? I want to show that ANYONE could represent the 7th district better that Roy Blunt who only serves his corporate contributors. I want to show that people are sick of the status quo politics as usual in Washington DC. I want to show that we want REAL change, and that we are willing to vote outside the box in order to demonstrate that America's democracy is in deep trouble.

SO, you have another choice in the November 4th general election. You can write in "Midge Potts" for US Representative on the line provided on your ballot, and send a message to Washington DC. Believe me, If I thought I could be a "spoiler" in this race, I would not be doing this. I saw in 2004, when I volunteered for Democratic Party nominee Jim Newberry, that all the good in the Ozarks is just not enough to even come close to defeating Roy Blunt's multi-million dollar propaganda campaign; no Democrat has ever received more than 35% of the vote against Blunt.

Please feel free to check out my website where you will find a lot more information about the values for which I stand on issues ranging from election reform to enviromental responsibility: http://www.midgepotts.com

Peace & Freedom,
Midge Potts

Dave's Message Discussion: Your Vote

Welcome to an open discussion about the value of your vote.  It begins with a statement from past PNO president Dave Davison.  You are welcome to join in and provide your opinion on the subject, so jump right in.  The more the merrier. Dave's message as sent out to the entire membership appears below.  You may reply by clicking on comment.  Just be sure to give us your name.  If you can't sign your name to your opinion, it isn't worth reading. -- Bob Ranney

The time of nit-natting of favorite secondary issues is over.  We may not like every single thing done by a candidate on every issue, but we should understand there is no such thing as a perfect candidate.  Why risk wasting a vote that could be a net positive stroke for a direly needed net improvement compared to the alternative of the same old crap from authoritarian leaders continuing forward if the NeoMcCainCon wins?  I am going to vote straight ticket Blue at every level of government because I just can't support even a good candidate of the most corrupt Republican Party in the history of our country.  I am not going to fool around wasting my vote, or splitting my ballot, and will be aiming it directly at the best viable choice to slam dunk it into the machine.  For the damage they have done to our country over eight years, the Republican Party deserves to be punished as severely as possible at ballot boxes nationwide.

I urge my friends and neighbors, and anybody I can talk to, to vote for Obama and every other Democratic candidate on the ballot.  First things first, and we can work on cleaning out the Democratic deadwood at the next election.  I view it as a multi-part process to try to establish the best government possible to forestall the efforts of the current UnAmerican subversive elements of the Republican Party that want to destroy the Constitution in favor of a fascist form of government, whether it is corporatism or the phony religion of the radical extremists.

My business is up, and I have to take care of business for the personal necessities that are a priority for my family, or I would be out there doing something more for the Obama campaign, consequently my wife is taking up some of my slack by volunteering her data input skills today, and she will be continuing to volunteer for tasks through the remainder of the campaign.  I actually had a good time and learned a lot when I volunteered to be a poll judge in 2006, and it wasn't complicated requiring only common sense.

The election is going to be huge and our country needs the grass roots help we can provide, as well as the efforts we can make to assist the campaign of the best choice we have.  At this point all the good American history is water under the bridge if the Republicans win the white house, and we need to do everything we can as individuals to keep our country from falling into a genuine fascist state.

Let's call the Obama offices and see what we can fit into our schedules.  Everybody has at least a few hours available before election day.  We need to participate as strongly as we can in the best interest of our families, our grandchildren, and our country.

That's my two cents, and my personal thanks to all for what you already do in the effort to restore the balance needed in America.  Lets help as best we can. -- Dave Davison
